When you do not have an indian/pakistani grocery store, I would recommend you purchase the spices you need to make your own garam masala.
I remember always referencing back to google to see a picture of the spices on the list when I was in my teens so hopefully that helps you!
Ingredients
- 4 tbsn Coriander Seeds (small round yellow/brown seeds)
- 2 tspn Cumin Seeds (small dark brown/black long thin seeds)
- 1 Black Cardamom (large round black spice with a strong scent that looks like the dried pit of a fruit)
- 1 tspn Whole Cloves (t-shaped spice)
- 1 tspn Green Cardamom Seeds (small green pods)
- 4 Bay leaves (long green dried leaves)
- 6 Dried Red Chilis (4 if long, 6 if smaller ones)
- 1 Cinnamon stick (3-4 inch)
- Pinch of Saffron (optional and expensive)
Instructions
- Place on flame to toast each of the spices for 2-3 minutes until aromatics, allow to cool.
- Put all ingredients into a grinder until finely coarse powder.
